5 Non-Superhero Films That Look Like 'The Batman'

5 Non-Superhero Films That Look Like 'The Batman'

The Batman grabbed the world by storm when it was published on March 4, 2022. The representation of Batman, Catwoman, Riddler, and Penguin has received critical acclaim, and DC fans are overjoyed.

Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, and Colin Farrell, for example, have all performed admirably. The Batman was unlike any other DC film we'd seen before.

Every aspect of it was masterfully handled, including cinematography, costumes, audio, and narratives. Fans are already anticipating the release of the sequel, but it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

The Batman 2 will be released in 2027, according to producer Dylan Clark, but that is still a long time away.

Until then, here are a few movie suggestions that are similar to The Batman but aren't about superheroes.

'Nightcrawler'

The neo-noir genre is used in a lot of thrillers and horror films to make the plots more menacing for the audience. The Batman did the same thing, and for the most part, the crowd was on the edge of their seats.

Nightcrawler, on the other hand, is undoubtedly one of the best current neo-noir films. It follows Lou Bloom, a stinger who sells violent event footage to a local news network.

But, in the process, he gets caught between ethical journalism and public demand. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a perfect sociopath in this fascinating and disturbing film.

'The Lighthouse'

Pattinson's portrayal of Bruce Wayne and the Caped Crusader in The Batman was flawless. Many have even claimed that he is the most accurate portrayal of the Dark Knight to date.

However, this isn't the first time Pattinson has exceeded his fans' and critics' expectations. His performance in The Lighthouse was outstanding, and it blew people's minds.

The film moves at a sluggish pace, and some may find it tedious. It follows two lighthouse keepers as they try to save their sanity while stranded on a distant island by a storm.

Pattinson was nominated for a number of prizes for his performance, including British / Irish Actor of the Year at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards.

At the 92nd Academy Awards, the film was also nominated for Best Cinematography.

'Fantastic Beasts' Franchise

One could think that the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise is unrelated to The Batman. While the storyline and tone of the film may be dissimilar, there is one aspect that stands out: the clothing.

The Batman has perhaps one of the best costumes of all the Batman movies and television series. The superhero and villain clothing was fantastic, possibly even better than the previous renditions.

The same can be said with Fantastic Beasts, particularly the first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film received the first Oscar nomination in the Harry Potter universe, for Best Costume Design.

The franchise is a spin-off of Harry Potter, and it follows Newt Scamander as he fights alongside his peers against the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald.

To date, there have been two films, with the third, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, set to be released on April 8, 2022.

Kravitz plays Leta Lestrange in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second film in the saga.

'Se7en'

One of the best suspense thriller films ever made is Se7en, or simply Seven. In a corrupt, dark, and crime-ridden city like Gotham, two detectives chase clues to uncover a serial killer.

The killer commits killings based on the seven deadly sins, and the detectives must track him down before he kills anybody more.

The hunt is long and exhausting, but the detectives work together and try their best to find the killer.

The serial killer has traits similar to Batman's arch-enemy, and the entire plot could easily be set in the Batman universe.

'Zodiac'

If you're familiar with the famed Zodiac Killer, you'll see a resemblance between Dano's Riddler and the Zodiac Killer. Everything about the Riddler, from his clothing to his riddles, was based on the infamous serial killer.

Dano confirmed this in an interview with Seth Meyers on Late Night.

Matt Reeves, the film's director, intended to tie Riddler with the Zodiac Killer, and Dano delivered exactly what he desired.

The scary Zodiac Killer is being hunted for in Zodiac. It centers on a detective partnership, a cartoonist, and a crime reporter who are all fascinated with tracking down a serial killer.

Zodiac is an excellent film to watch if you want to learn more about the Riddler's inspiration.
