Meet Yumi Nu -- First Asian Plus-Size Model

This year model, singer, and songwriter Yumi Nu is making history!

Yumi Nu has been named in the upcoming 2021 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit's Rookie of the Year. With the new venture, she has become the first Asian curve model to grace the magazine’s pages.

During an interview with PEOPLE, she said, 

"I'm so beyond honored to be a part of the SI Swim family and to represent my Asian curve girls,"

"It's such an iconic magazine, and I'm still pinching myself that it happened!"

Yumi is also joined by Leyna Bloom, the first trans woman of color n the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition breaking barriers in the industry.

In addition to her graceful appearance with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s Rookie, Yumi has also signed with model agencies in London (Wilhelmina London) and New York (The Society Management).

Interestingly, the Japanese-Dutch star is the niece of well-known DJ and producer Steve Aoki.

Some Facts On Yumi Nu

  • Yumi was born on 24th September 1996 in a small town in New Jersey. Her father, Brent, is Dutch, and her mother, Kana Grace, is Japanese. 
  • At the age of seven, she moved to Maryland and then to California. More about her family, she has a younger sister. 
  • Yumi, during her teenage, struggled with insecurities about her body and also faced racism. With time she overcame her insecurities and started embracing her body. Yumi has a great height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 meters) and weighs 242 lbs. She is a blessed curvaceous body with measurements of 38-36-49.

  • Yumi always wanted to pursue her music and modeling career, and after she moved to Las Vegas, she reconnected with her uncle Steve Aoki. She learned a lot about music from her uncle. 
  • Yumi attended a community college for education but later joined Arizona State Online School to study graphic designing. 
  • Being a plus-size, she went on and off in the modeling industry, but she met other plus-size models on the social media platform, which encouraged her to pursue her dream.   • As for her music career, she auditioned for The Voice and also made YouTube covers. She has released singles like Heart’s Ain’t Gonna Lie, Ghosted, Ego Boost, and Find you.

  • Let’s move on to her love life; Yumi is dating Dimitri Dinas. She and her boyfriend started dating in early February 2020. Her boyfriend often makes an appearance on her social media account.
