Lashana Lynch is best known as the Brit-Jamaican actress who took on the role of Double 00 agent as the first-ever black character, and a woman on top of that, in the Bond movie.
People also know her for making headlines with her appearance in the Netflix movie musical adaptation of Matilda. Originally, it was Embeth Davidtz who played the role in the 1996 film adaptation, which was directed by Danny DeVito.

However, while she continued to impress the audience, Lashana was faced with the blatantly repulsing truth of making it big.
Before or even after cementing her name in the industry, Lashana has faced several problems as a black woman in show business.

Out of them all, the announcement of her replacing 007 in No Time to Die, outraged several fans. It was huge news that a black woman was taking over the role of a well-trained British secret agent that had been associated with Daniel Craig, who has portrayed James Bond since 2006, all this time.
“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is Black, beautiful and a woman.”
Although it was cleared that Lashana would be starring as Nomi, “the secret agent who inherits the 007 title while Bond himself is in exile,” the actress got backlash from several directions. This event led her to delete all her social media apps and stay in contact with just her family for a whole week.
However, despite the criticism, Lashana was absolutely proud to be making the historic moment.
“I am one Black woman - if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse. I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.” - Lashana Lynch on Harpers Bazaar.
