Kevin's first time taking an interest in skiing was after seeing it at the nearby Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, Illinois. He then began practicing jumping on a plastic hill at the age of 11, he was leaping the club's highest hill, the 70-meter hill.
"I remember as young as 3 years old, he was constantly climbing on things and jumping on this and that and it was almost more worrisome (than ski jumping)," his mother, Maureen Bickner, told TeamUSA.org ahead of the 2018 Winter Games. "It was good to get him into a sport where he could have that adrenaline rush in a controlled way.”

Kevin was part of the U.S. developmental squad five years later, residing half-time in Park City, Utah.

Kevin's first Winter Olympic Games appearance occurred in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018.
On the regular hill, he finished 18th, the greatest finish by a US male in the Olympics in 16 years. He also placed 20th in the large hill individual and 9th in the team large hill at the same race.
