Akili McDowell was born on December 30, 2002, under the zodiac sign of Capricorn. He grew up around the area of Houston, Texas.

During an interview with 1883 Magazine, he said, “I could tell as soon as I read the paper. So I sent in a self-tape from Houston and then I got a callback and they flew me out to Atlanta and I was like, ‘Uh oh.’ And then they flew me to LA and I was like, ‘I gotta get this now. This is the last stage.’ So, I go in and I gave it all I got and I think I did alright.”

Another interview with Creative Company revealed that Akili had found a lot in common with his character of David.
Whether it was that both of them were raised by a single mother or that they were always eager to be with their family, Akili actually found common ground with David.

Among several of his interests is playing football. There was also a time when he played for his home team, ‘North Shore Mustangs.’ His profile on their page shows his NextGen All America Camp badge.
The profile also mentions his height to be 5 feet 4 inches (1.62 meters) and his weight at that time being 135 lbs.
