Barbara Kavovit is an American author, political candidate, businesswoman, and reality television star. 

Her appearance on ‘The Real Housewives of New York City,’ got her a lot of attention. But people were more interested in her after she announced that she would run for the 2021 New York City mayoral election in January 2021. 

However, this Thursday, Barbara dropped out of the New York City mayoral race. Let’s learn more about Barbara and her decision to drop out of the election.

Barbara Kavovit Bio

Barbara Kavovit was born on January 4, 1966, under the zodiac sign of Capricorn. She was born to her mechanical engineer father Joseph Kavovit and her history teacher mother. (Her parents divorced in 2013)

For her education, Barbara went to the State University of New York at Oswego and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance.

Career 

As an author, Barbara has three published books to date. Those books include the nonfictions: ‘Room For Improvement’ (2005) and ‘Invest in Your Nest’ (2006), and a fiction called ‘Heels of Steel’ (2019).

When it comes to television, Barbara rose to fame with ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ when she appeared as a guest on the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth, and ninth seasons.

She later appeared as a friend of Luann de Lesseps for the eleventh season.

Barbara is also the CEO of Evergreen Construction, which is a business she founded in 2015. 

Why did Barbara Kavovit Drop out of NYC mayoral election?

It was in September 2020 when Barbara told Page Six that she was planning to run for mayor.

“Well, I have to say, if Donald Trump could be President of the United States, I can be Mayor of New York City. You know, I’m a builder. I know how to build. I know how to rebuild.” - Barbara Kavovit to Page Six

In January 2021, the author formally entered herself into the race and gathered support from out-of-state “Housewives” who couldn’t vote for her, rather than her former RHONY cast members.

This Thursday, however, Barbara dropped out of the election after a five-month campaign. 

“Running for mayor has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of my professional career. There is so much work that lies ahead to rebuild NYC and I’d like to see a qualified woman become the next Mayor of NYC, and that’s why I’m endorsing Kathryn Garcia.” - Barbara Kavovit to Page Six

She also added, “But don’t count me out, I’ll be running the same job in four years.”

The reality star first let her followers on Instagram know about her dropping out of the mayoral election. 

The caption read, “It’s been an amazing, positive, and enlightening experience running for mayor of #NewYorkCity, in a time where the city needed a new leader more than ever.”

She continued, “It became apparent that I did not plan enough time in advance to pursue my mayoral race successfully, so therefore I am now endorsing the next best person to be Mayor of this great city, Kathryn Garcia.”

Barbara was previously married to a man who used to work as a contractor. She has a son named Zachary Kavovit-Murphy, who appears on her Instagram feed quite often.
