Who is Carrie Clark? Wife of Late Former 49ers TE Greg Clark

Carrie Clark is the wife of late former San Francisco 49ers tight end Greg Clark. Greg passed away at the age of 49 on Wednesday, July 7. 

His family announced the unfortunate news on Friday, and while they did not reveal the exact cause of his death, they did point out that his passing was unexpected. 

The family mentioned that Greg may have been suffering from the effects of head trauma that was sustained throughout his football career.

“His recent suffering from CTE symptoms cannot extinguish the breadth and depth of his impact on us and others and we are forever grateful for the time we have had with him,” the statement claimed. “It is our hope that through further research we can gain more knowledge surrounding CTE.”

Greg Clark left behind Carrie Clark, his wife of 23 years, and his three sons.

Carrie Clark is the wife of Greg Clark. They got married 23 years ago and were together until Greg’s sudden death.

Who was Greg Clark? 

Greg Clark was an American professional football player who contributed as a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). 

He joined the NFL as a third-round draft choice of the Niners in 1997 following an impressive collegiate career at Stanford. 

Greg proceeded to play four seasons in the league, all with San Francisco before his career abruptly ended in 2001 due to injuries. 

His career brought him recognition as one of the premier blocking tight ends in the NFL.

Greg caught 92 passes over his 55 games played for 909 yards and four touchdowns. He also added five more receptions for 38 yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs as well. 

Greg Clark’s Death

On the statement his family passed, Greg had been experiencing “chronic traumatic encephalopathy” symptoms. 

“It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Greg Clark, 49, cherished husband, father, son, brother and friend to so many. Greg was a dedicated family man who was successful at everything he did from his academic and athletic achievements as a Stanford scholar athlete to his role as tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, to the creation of a successful real estate platform throughout the bay area. Most importantly, he was a cherished and dedicated father of three sons, and a loving husband to his wife of 23 years.” - The Family Statement

The 49ers also released a statement after Greg’s death. They said, “Our organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Greg Clark.” The statement continued, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
